So many times I am asked, “what does this painting mean”, or maybe, “what are you trying to say?” Even the mundane, “what is it,” I am asked.
Answers to questions such as these are difficult, because the world I
see and I want to paint, is not duplicating whats there. My painting would be of the feeling, thoughts and perhaps even a memory in time, the scene gives to me. I would not paint an object in
it’s realism in nature. To me, an object may be visible, but it’s the
feeling I want to express.
When I paint or create a sculpture, I can concentrate and forget
everything around me. I react to line, movement, strokes and color.
There is a sense of calm and purpose. That is not to say that I always
succeed. I question my work and this struggle brings me back to the
canvas.
The adage that the journey is as important and meaningful as the
destination is, certainly also applies for me in my art.
